"Reserve the game and get access to the beta." They have repeated this tagline so many times that you will surely consider it valid in any game before they even give you the details. It happens to all of us! And it is no less true with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. In this preparation guide, however, we collect all the fine print of this frantic war shooter, which is scheduled to launch on October 12 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

In an era where the tendency is to reduce as much as possible the DLC payment and other unnecessary complications, Activision and Treyarch bet fully on the Black Ops Pass and two different betas that can fill the most painted doubts. Much has been talked about since E3 2018 until today, although we will try to clear all possible questions about it as best as possible.

Betas: platforms, schedules, access

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will have two beta phases before its launch: they will take place in summer and fall, respectively. Each one of them will have a different programming that varies between platforms and ways of accessing so it can be a bit messy first. We will try to clarify the schedule and mechanics of each testing phase.

At the beginning of August, the multiplayer beta of Black Ops 4 will take place. Yes, it is the PvP mode that you have probably already tried in other betas of previous games of the Call of Duty series. It can be played on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, following the programming indicated below.

Keep in mind that all opening and closing times are at 7:00 p.m. on the day indicated in the table. If the place where you live has a different time zone than in mainland Spain, we recommend you use the Time and Date tool to make the conversion.

Platform and typeDate
PS4 (closed)3/8 - 6/8
PS4 and Xbox One (closed)10/8 - 13/8
PC (closed)10/8
PC (open)11/8 - 13/8

As you can see, almost all phases are closed. That means you need to reserve the game to get access to the beta. If you reserve the game in physical format, they will give you a code to exchange on the official Call of Duty website, while if you book in digital format through the PS4, Xbox One or Battle.net virtual stores you will automatically register for the beta.

The only exception is the PC. The multiplayer beta can be accessed in the last weekend and will be open, but those who have reserved the game can access it with 24 hours in advance. This is what Activision would label "early access to the beta", but you can actually download it the next day if you prefer not to book the game.

There is one more beta, which will take place in September and will be dedicated to the battle royale debutante, Blackout. Surely follow a pattern similar to that of the multiplayer beta, although the details of access and platforms are scarce: for now, we only know that it will be held first on PS4.

Contents and rewards of the multiplayer beta

The beta includes six maps, two of which have not been released yet. You can play modes such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Search & Destroy and the new Control mode, where rounds of attack and defense are played in pre-set objectives for several turns. They appear new specialists and veterans (Nomad, Prophet) the latter with redesigns.

Simply by playing the beta, a special business card will be unlocked in the final version of the game. If you reach the highest rank (it is not clear what it is) then besides that you will receive a redeemable for a personalization item in the final game, which will help you start a little faster than the others.

Post-release: free and paid content

Black Ops 4

Before reserving the game or not (you probably want to do so to enter the beta) you should consider the post-launch content plan that Activision has reserved for the game. Because normally it is enough to say "I like this DLC, I buy it, I do not like it, I do not buy it", but in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 the thing does not work exactly like that.

The Black Ops Pass is a substitution to the traditional season pass and is focused on another perspective: instead of giving access to four lots of content, it will allow its owners to enjoy a more frequent and constant programming of small novelties over a long period of time. continued time. That means you can not get DLC packages individually.

On the other hand, at the time of writing these lines, it is not possible to acquire the Black Ops Pass separately. That is, if you want to play the contents of the Black Ops Pass output, you must purchase this content in an edition that contains game and pass. It can not be purchased separately, at least not in its first stages of life. However, Activision confirms that it can be acquired separately later, at a time without specifying.

The Black Ops Pass will include the contents detailed below.

A classified zombie map, the only content of the available launch pass.
12 multiplayer maps.
4 characters for Blackout.
4 experiences in zombie mode.

What happens if you do not want to get the Black Ops Pass at all? According to the well-known YouTuber Drift0r, you will also have access to " more free content than any other CoD ", as new specialists and events to which other games of the Call of Duty series have already accustomed us. In certain situations, it will also be possible to play maps at no additional cost that are normally paid.

Just to clarify: any game reservation will give you access to the beta of the game, but the most post-release content is included only in the Black Ops Pass. Outbound, this is only included in special editions: Digital Deluxe Edition, Digital Deluxe Enhanced Edition, Pro Edition, or the recently announced Mystery Box Edition.
