Telegram says Apple has not allowed it to update

According to the creator of the Russian application, some features will not work on the iOS14 system.

A day after Apple updated its operating system, the new iOS 14, Telegram, the Russian application of encrypted instant messaging, said that it will not work correctly on devices with that update because Apple has not allowed it to update. "Unfortunately, Apple did not take our side," said Pavel Durov, creator of the application, in a communication from his official Telegram channel on Thursday.

Durov, who created the application in 2013, said the measures Apple's company started in April, after Russian authorities banned the messaging application for not providing access codes to their users' information and messages.

"Russia banned Telegram from its territory in April because we refused to provide decryption keys for all our users 'communications to Russian security agencies, and we believe that we did the only thing possible, preserving our users' right to privacy in a country with problems, "Durov wrote.

This month two demonstrations were organized in the Russian capital, Moscow, to protest against the ban. The protesters criticize the government and claim an internet censorship.

The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) has said that it must protect itself against security threats, such as terrorist attacks. But for its part, Telegram is challenging the blockade in Russian courts. According to Durov, Russia represents only 7 percent of the Telegram user base.

"Apple is restricting updates for all Telegram users around the world," he said in his communication.

Telegram is an application founded in 2013 by brothers Pavel and Nikolai Durov that currently has over 200 million users worldwide. It is recognized for its high level of confidentiality to have tools such as private chats that self-destruct and point-to-point encryption.
