Shuntaro Furukawa is officially the new president of Nintendo

At the end of April of this year, Tatsumi Kimishima announced that he would leave his position as president of Nintendo. The day has finally arrived, so Shuntaro Furukawa took over as the new president of the Japanese company.

Nintendo held its 78th annual general meeting of shareholders, meeting where Furukawa was officially appointed the new leader of the company. The director said that Nintendo will continue to change over time, but that at all times retain their "flexibility and ingenuity in entertainment."

For her part, Kimishima made a brief farewell comment and made it clear that she is satisfied with her work. "I was named president due to the sudden death of our former president, but thanks to the support of a lot of good people, including shareholders, the switch were released without problems, I do not think I can retire at a better time.

Subsequently, Furukawa issued a statement with a message for all Nintendo fans. The new president stressed that they will do everything possible so that more and more people enjoy their IP.

"I believe that among a greater number of people who are moved by the characters and the philosophy of the game we cultivate here, the company will be more valuable (...) Through our products and services, our company seeks to expand that circle of smiling faces Worldwide. It is our duty for society, "said Furukawa.

Finally, the president of Nintendo reaffirmed his commitment to take new risks and offer many surprises to his followers in the future.

Furukawa studied at the Faculty of Political Economy of the University of Waseda. He worked for a decade in Germany as part of Nintendo and in 2012 he became the external director of The Pokémon Company, later becoming its general manager, administrative supervisor, and director.

Also, his role for the success of Switch has been relevant, since 2016 he served as director of global marketing for Nintendo. We will have to wait to know the changes and adjustments prepared by Furukawa for the future of the company.
