Sony does not contemplate abandoning the portable game

The company will continue experimenting in this sector of the industry

Sony's path in the portable console industry started quite well with the launch of the PSP. However, the arrival of PS Vita was not so fortunate, at least not in the West. Given this, it is thought that the company will completely abandon the portable game, but apparently, their plans are different.

John Kodera, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said the company will continue to experience the portable gaming sector. The manager made it clear that, at the moment, they do not have concrete plans for hardware, but they do research and plan something related to that area.

"In my opinion, instead of separating the portable games from the consoles, it is necessary to continue to think of it as a method to offer more gaming experiences and explore what our customers want with regard to laptops." We want to think about many options, "he said. Kodera during a meeting with Bloomberg (via IGN ).

It must be taken into account that the manager's statements do not necessarily imply a new portable console. Sony has also bet on the development of games for mobile devices so it could have plans to expand into this popular sector of the industry.

On the other hand, they have the PlayLink initiative, which takes advantage of the interaction between mobile and PlayStation 4 to offer a new gaming experience.

The truth is that everything indicates that PS Vita will stop receiving support in the coming years. In fact, we know that Sony will stop making physical games for its laptop at the beginning of 2019. The console enjoys good popularity in Japan so this measure will not apply on the island, where there will be support beyond next year.

Andrew House, former manager of the company, said that portable consoles have low potential in the market. However, Kodera could well change the focus of its strategy and bet on that sector.

Sony has long since registered a patent for a console similar to Nintendo Switch but apparently has no plans at the moment to announce new hardware.
