Valve buys Campo Santo, creative studio of Firewatch

The team will continue working in In the Valley of Gods

In an unexpected move, Valve, a company best known for being responsible for Steam and titles such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2, bought Campo Santo. If you do not recognize them by name, it's likely that you do if we tell you that it's the team behind Firewatch, the acclaimed indie game that arrived at the beginning of last year.

Campo Santo was responsible for announcing this in a post he shared on his blog. In it, he explained that its 12 members decided to join Valve, a company in which they will continue working as video game developers and will continue with the production of In the Valley of Gods, their next game.

Later, he noted that in Valve they found a group of people with similar ideas and passions, who also offer them "valuable and unique experience", as well as different perspectives. So, when they were invited to join them, they did not hesitate to accept the invitation.

"We had a series of long conversations with the people of Valve and everyone has the same satisfaction as us in working with people whose talents achieve things we never thought possible. Both sides talked about their values and how, deep down, we, as human beings, are limited by the time we have left to do the things that matter to us and in those we believe. They asked us if we would be interested in going to Bellevue and doing it there and we said yes, "Campo Santo explained.

Finally, the company reiterated that this decision will have little impact on the players. That is, they will continue working in In the Valley of Gods, although now it will debut as a Valve game; continue with support for Firewatch and will not stop publishing The Quarterly Review or update your blog.

As you know, in recent years Valve has been criticized for not working on new releases and just focusing on supporting titles like Counter-Strike and Dota 2. That said, the company recently said that this was about to change, so this acquisition seems to be part of these plans.

And you, what do you think about this situation? Do you think Campo Santo made the right decision? Tell us in the comments.
