Next installment of Sakura Wars is already under development

The title will be set in the Tokyo of 1929

There is good news for fans of Sakura Wars, as SEGA confirmed that it is already working on a new installment of the series. After years of absence, players can finally enjoy the tactical franchise once again.

The company made the announcement in the framework of SEGA Fes 2018, an event that takes place this weekend in Japan. At the moment, we know that the new Sakura Wars, also known as Shin Sakura Taisen, will have a completely new story so it will not be a remastering of past deliveries.

The title will be set in the imperial Tokyo of the Taisho era, during 1929. Thus, his narrative will take us 2 years after the events of Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love, delivery that debuted in 2010 for PlayStation 2 and Wii.

For this reason, the new title is expected to tell us more about the Imperial Assault Force, so we will probably see characters like Ichiro Ogami and Sakura Shinguji again.

SEGA did not disclose any additional details about the game, so, for now, we do not know what platforms it will reach. On the other hand, there is no information on a possible launch window. In addition, the game is confirmed for Japan now, so we'll have to wait for more details of its location in the West.

The franchise debuted in 1996 with the first installment for SEGA Saturn. Subsequently, the series reached Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, Wii, PSP and even Nintendo DS. However, most of the Sakura Wars games have not left Japanese territory.

In the event, SEGA also revealed a collection of classic titles for Nintendo Switch and the arrival of a mini version of the Mega Drive.
