Playing GTA V does not cause violent behavior in the long term

A German study concludes not having found significant changes between playing GTA V, The Sims 3 and not playing.

While the White House discloses a video on the violence of video games on the web, a new study published in the prestigious science magazine Nature concludes that no significant changes have been found in groups of individuals submitted to GTA V gaming sessions.

"The findings of the study show that an extensive game intervention, over the course of two months, did not reveal any specific change in the levels of aggression, empathy, interpersonal skills, behaviors related to impulsivity, depression, anxiety or functions. of executive control, not in comparison with an active control group submitted to a non-violent video game or a passive control group. The current results provide strong evidence against the frequently debated negative effects of playing violent video games, "we read in the conclusions of the report. In them, it is also called to conduct research with children as a protagonist to demonstrate such absence of effects in them.

The report is signed by the University Clinic Hamburg-Eppendore of Germany and the Max Planck Institute. There were 90 participants, all of them healthy with an average age of 28 years (range of 18 to 45 years). The experts divided the subjects into three different groups, one had to undergo play sessions for eight weeks to GTA V - a title considered violent - another one to The Sims 3 - non-violent - and a third set contributed passively. The results were obtained through a large battery of tests. You can find all the information in Nature.
