Newell: Artifact will be like the Half-Life 2 of the card games

The new title of Valve will seek to recover the best of the industry

Little by little, more information about Artifact begins to appear: The Dota Card Game, Valve's new title. Gabe Newell, co-founder, and CEO of the company shared some more details of this project that will reach PC.

During a recent presentation, recorded by PCGamesN, Newell claims that Artifact: The Dota Card Game will be a revolution regarding card titles. The manager compared it in this sense to Half-Life 2, which in his time sought to be a definitive sample of his genre.

" Artifact is for us something similar to Half-Life 2, which was an attempt to bring together everything we had seen in the industry, as well as all our ideas and experiences, to make it the definitive sample of a first-person action title. That's what Artifact is in terms of collectible card games, "said Newell.

On the other hand, the creators said that they plan an esports scene around Artifact: The Dota Card Game. So, they will support professional players interested in the title and will do their best to create a community around this project.

The first great competition of Artifact: The Dota Card Game will be a tournament sponsored by Valve. The prize will be $ 1 MDD and will be held in the first quarter of 2019. In addition, Newell said that there will be other smaller competitions during that year.

Newell revealed yesterday that the game will not be free-to-play and that it will have its microeconomic environment. The title is currently in the testing phase, which implies that it is already playable.

Artifact: The Dota Card Game does not yet have a release date, but is expected to arrive this year on PC. Recent reports indicate that the game will also reach iOS and Android devices by mid-2019.
