For the first time, Oculus Rift beats HTC Vive on Steam

Valve shared the February results of his monthly hardware survey

For several months, HTC Vive positioned itself as the preferred virtual reality headset for Steam users. However, things changed in February 2018 as, for the first time in history, Oculus Rift positioned itself as the most popular VR device among Steam users.

In its monthly Steam user hardware and software survey for February 2018 , Valve revealed that 47.38% of users of virtual reality devices on Steam own an Oculus Rift. On the other hand, 45.38% of these players use an HTC Vive, while only 5.36% use a Windows mixed reality device.

It is likely that this achievement is a consequence of the recent price cuts that Oculus Rift has received . Just last year, Oculus reduced the price of its virtual reality headset by $ 100 USD, so it is now possible to acquire its bundle with control in exchange for $ 399 USD. For its part, HTC also decreased the price of Vive, however, it is still $ 200 USD more expensive than the Oculus Rift ($ 599 USD).

Now, it is important to clarify that virtual reality users represent a very small fraction of the total number of players on Steam. According to the most recent survey, only 0.28% of platform users have a VR device on their PC. That is, approximately 0.14% of Steam users own an Oculus Rift.

In other news, a few months ago Oculus announced the launch of a low-cost virtual reality headset , which will not have to be connected to a PC or mobile. On the other hand, we think you'll be interested to know that the creators of Titanfall work on a title for Oculus Rift .

And you, are you from Steam users who use a virtual reality device? If your answer was affirmative, which one do you have? Tell us in the comments.
