Alibaba Group will support the arrival of the esports to the Olympic Games

The company made it clear that they do not want to see violent games at the sporting event

In recent years, the popularity of esports and their business potential have placed them in the spotlight of Olympic disciplines that could be integrated into future editions. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) made it clear last year that esports is a sport and the possibility of them being present at the 2024 edition, in Paris, is extensive. However, the IOC also stated that violent video games are not welcome and that is the position of the Chinese company, Alibaba, which will support the arrival of the esports at the Olympics.

Alibaba Group, the largest Chinese e-commerce company in China, reported that it will launch a support campaign for the arrival of esports at the Olympic Games. This company is and will be the sponsor of the Olympics in Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028 and will take advantage of its position to promote video game competitions as an Olympic discipline. However, this campaign will be focused on the promotion of football games, races and any gender that does not involve violence, so popular competitive titles such as PUBG, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Overwatch, to mention a few, are not contemplated. In this regard, Zhang Dazhong, general manager of Alibaba, said: "In our communication with the Olympic Committee, we have understood their values, which are focused on the promotion of peace, which is why our esports development plan will concentrate on sports titles instead of games with violent content ".

Although the titles that Alibaba has contemplated to support the arrival of the esports to the Olympic Games have not been revealed, it is a fact that the company will make its best effort to make the video game competitions recognized as an Olympic discipline and the players can compete to reach any of the 3 medals.

What do you think about this position? Will the esports arrive, as planned, to be an official discipline in Paris 2024?
